Should you be getting a laser hair removal treatment during pregnancy?

Laser Hair Removal during Pregnancy questions are often asked by pregnant women and different clinics have different answers.  Many mothers to be wonder if it’s safe to undergo laser hair removal treatments during pregnancy.  I will do my best to explain the laser hair removal risks during pregnancy so that you could easily make your own decision. When women become pregnant, the rate of hair growth increases and new hair appears on some body areas that were once soft and smooth.  That is the result of hormone level being increased during the nine months. On  areas like the face, the abdomen and the breasts extra hair appears or hair becomes thicker and darker. This is absolutely normal. After the delivery all processes in the body goes back to normal.

 

Most people believe that laser hair removal during pregnancy is completely safe when done in the first months. Many therapists would warn us to stay away from the bikini area though. How to be sure whats the right choice then? Whatever you do, consulting your OBGYN regarding any type of treatment you are considering while you are pregnant is a must. According to studies made by the American Pregnancy Association, laser hair removal during pregnancy is safe.  Have in mind though that the long term effects of this procedure are not studied!

 

If you are an expecting mother- the best option is to wait until baby is delivered. If you have already started such procedures I would recommend that you stop them right away. Better to be safe than sorry!

If you didn’t know you were pregnant when you started your laser hair removal  procedures- you need to have a consultation with your OBGYN. Laser hair removal during pregnancy is not recommended as the long term effects on the fetus are not studied.
